Sunil Gangopadhyay, eminent Bengali poet, essayist, fiction writer, and travelogue writer is the President, Sahitya Akademi. Knows Bengali, English, Hindi and French; his published works include approximately 300 books some of which are Ami Kerakam Bhabe Benche Achhi, Sunil Gangopadhyayer Srestha Kabita, Amar Swapna, Hathath Neerar Janya, Ratrir Radevu, Bangla Char Akash (all poetry); Srestha Galpo, Maha Prithibi (both short stories); Praner Prahari, Raja Rani (both plays); Sanatan Patthoker Chinta (criticism); Sei Somoy, Purba Paschim, Aranyer Dinratri, Pratidwandi (all novels); Sabuj Dwiper Raja (children’s literature); Ardhek Jeevan (Autobiography); Received several Awards and Honors including Honorary D. Raman Soni, eminent Gujarati critic and poet. M.A. (Gujarati). Born.7.7.1946, Chitroda, Gujarat. Career Before joining M.S. University where he is a Professor with the Gujarati Dept. (Since 1989), he has taught in various colleges and universities after 1971; Editor of Encyclopedia of Gujarati Literature (1981-85); served as a Member, Executive Committee, Gujarati Sahitya Parishad; Gujarati Advisory Board, National Book Trust since 2007; currently Editor of Pratyakshe, a Gujarati quarterly. Languages known: Konkani. Marathi, Hindi and English. Awards & Honours: Best Critical Work Award (twice) from Gujarat Sahitya Parishad; Gujarat Sahitya Academy Award. Publications: 14, including Vivechan Sandarba; Sabhipraya (essays on criticism.); Samaksha; Parokshe Pratyakshe (reviews and articles); Khabardan (monograph).

Ramesh Chandra Shah was born in Almora in 1937 and did his M.A. and Ph.D. at Agra University. After retiring from Bhopal’s Hamidia University in 1997 as Head of the English Department, he headed the Nirala Srijanpeeth till December 2000. Pankaj Thakur is a writer, translator, editor, film screen play writer and philanthropist. Hailing from a small town in the backwaters of Assam, he received his education in Guwahati and Mumbai. Starting his career as a lecturer in Economics in Nagaland he later switched to corporate sector. He served for several years in senior executive positions in leading corporate houses of the country. Subsequently he joined The Sentinel, a premier English daily, as the Co-ordinating Editor and worked for around two years. He was also the editor of Ajir Asom, a widely circulated Assamese monthly magazine. Felicitated by the President of India in 1992 in a programme organized by Katha- a leading literary organization in India, he was the Nominating Editor of Katha for Assamese section for five times between 1992 to 2002. A film aficionado, Pankaj Thakur wrote the story as well as the screen play for an internationally acclaimed Assamese movie- AHIR BHAIRAV. He has got published ten books till now, which include both fiction and non-fiction. Currently he is holding an honorary position of Executive Director of the Centre for Translation and Culture Studies, Guwahati. He is also the Guest Editor of Amar Somoy, a prestigious literary magazine published by the Times of India group. The President of Parampara Pravah, he is actively involved in various social-cultural and philanthropic activities.

Agrahara Krishna Murthy, eminent Kannada poet is the Secretary, Sahitya Akademi. Some of his important publications include a novel Neeru Mattu Preeti, one collection of poems, Dhyana, Beldingalappana Pooje (Folklore Studies), Bahuvachana (writings on literature and culture), Samskriti Kathana (Ed. Critical Essays of the late D.R. Nagaraj, 2 eds.), Dara Shikuh (translation of Majma-ul-Bahrain, biography) etc; Has also published numerous essays and critical articles on language, literature, culture etc. in newspapers, magazines and other journals. He has translated into Kannada, several short stories from other Indian languages. Co-edited 110 books in different genres in the Kuvempu Centenary Series for C.V.G. Publications, Bangalore. As a freelance journalist, he has been active as a columnist in Udayavani, Kannada Daily and Lankesh Patrike, Kannada Weekly and as Editor, Kannada Nudi, a monthly published by Kannada Sahitya Parishad, Bangalore and as Contributing Editor, Prajavani, Book Reviews; Is recipient of Karnataka Sahitya Academy Award, Kempegowda Award from Bangalore Metropolitan Corporation, SR Patil Award, Gulbarga and Vardhman Prashasti (Mudubidire, Karnataka); Has visited Sweden, France, United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, China, Argentina, Russia & Syria; participated in a number of seminars, discussions, reading sessions and in the International Book Fairs.

Děkan Filozofické fakulty Univerzity Karlovy doc. PhDr. Michal Stehlík, Ph.D. podepsal spolu s velvyslancem Indické republiky panem D.P. Šrívástavou 7. června 2011 smlouvu o zřízení lektorátu hindského jazyka na FF UK. V rámci tohoto projektu bude od akademického roku 2011/2012 na Ústavu jižní a centrální Asie působit profesor hindského jazyka a literatury vyslaný Indickou radou pro kulturní spolupráci (ICCR)...

Pandanus is a biannual peer-reviewed international journal publishing original research papers in English on nature symbolism in Literature, Art, Myth and Ritual. It has a regional focus on South Asia but welcomes papers from other regions. The journal is the outcome of the Pandanus project, based at the Institute of South and Central Asian Studies, Seminar of Indian Studies, Philosophical Faculty, Charles University in Prague. Pandanus volumes started coming out in 1998 on an annual basis as a result of co-operation between three Universities... 

On 27 September 2008 three member institutions of CEENIS (Institute of South and Central Asia, Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic; Department of Indology, Institute of Oriental Philology, Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland; Department of South Asian Studies, Faculty of Oriental Studies, University of Warsaw; Poland) and Department of Antique Studies (Indological Section), State University of Milan (Italy) signed in Warsaw a Letter of Intent concerning their further academic and research cooperation in the fields of common interest... 

Dne 17. ledna 2009 zemřel ve Francii po dlouhé nemoci světoznámý český indolog a drávidista, prof. Kamil V. Zvelebil, zakladatel české tamilistiky a drávidistiky ... 

Dne 8.11.2007 udělila Mongolská státní univerzita zlatou medaili profesora Čoj. Luvsandžava PhDr. Aleně Oberfalzerové, PhD. za její monografii Metaphors and Nomads (Nakladatelství TRITON, Praha 2006). Mongolská státní univerzita uděluje tuto cenu jednou za tři roky. Medaile byla zatím udělena třikrát, v roce 2002 profesoru Ya. Ganbaatarovi z Mongolské státní university a v roce 2004 profesoru Go. Jorigtovi z Mongolské university ve Vnitřním Mongolsku v ČLR ... 

V červnu 2003 se PhDr. Svetislavu Kostićovi, Dr. dostalo ocenění ze strany vlády Indie za šíření hindštiny. Deset odborníků na tento jazyk z celého světa bylo oceněno na VII. světové konferenci o hindštině v Surinamu. Dr. Kostićovi ocenění osobně předal náměstek ministra zahraničních věcí Indie pan Digvidžaj Singh během své návštěvy ČR koncem září 2003 ... 

Studium indických jazyků, které má na evropském kontinentě více než dvousetletou tradici, v Čechách postupně přerostlo z čistě filologicky orientovaného oboru v rámci tzv. srovnávací indoevropské jazykovědy v široce kulturněhistoricky, literárně a jazykovědně koncipovaný obor. Ačkoli znalost tradice, zdrojů moderní kultury, moderního náboženství a literatury je i nadále nedílnou součástí indologického studia i bádání, obrací se naše, stejně jako světová indologie postupně stále více k současnosti ... 

Profesor Vincenc Lesný patří k nejvýraznějším postavám české orientalistiky první poloviny 20. století. Kromě zakotvení v klasické indologii, buddhologii a srovnávacím jazykozpytu se již od počátku své akademické dráhy ve dvacátých letech začal aktivně věnovat i moderním indickým jazykům, maráthštině, hindštině a především bengálštině. Svou důkladnou filologickou erudici využíval k podrobnému studiu textů nejen v práci o buddhismu, ale i v pracech literárních a kulturně-historických ...
